    Peter Pan
In Peter Pan the theme, transcendentalism, is seen through different aspects of the story. Transcendentalism is seen most vividly in the wild boys (Peter Pan and his crew). They all live of the land and are self reliant of themselves and Peter Pan. All the kids in the wild boys ran away from civilized societies and moved to the wild to be young forever. The boys learned an important lesson early on in life that the “greatest skill in life is to want but little” and enjoy your self (Thoreau, Walden). Meaning, the boys learned that material wants and such are not necessary for a happy life. The boys wore the same clothes, made everything they wanted, worked together, and scrimmaged for their own food. The boy’s original reason for going was different for each but after getting there they realized it was for the fun, brotherhood, and “ to front only the essential facts of life”(Thoreau, Walden). The wild boys wanted no responsibilities except to stay alive and to take care of the their fellow wild boys. They also show non-conformism, because they decided to leave and not grow old like everyone else did. The wild boys fight off the conformist (the pirates). The children chose to exile themselves away from their families and past life to live free and in nature with boys like themselves.
The story of Peter Pan was first written by J.M. Barrie and performed as a play in 1904. The story was soon written into a book in 1911, and then the fairytale became wildly popular and was then spread throughout the world. Peter Pan was retold numerously and was eventually made into movies and performed by many, and is now a household name. Peter Pan is the story of Wendy, a young English girl, being taken away from her home to Neverland, and her two brothers’ stories to find her and return her home safely. The stories affect on society is that the story makes people imagine. People imagine what it would be like in Neverland and what it would be like living there. People imagine what it is like to fly and fight pirates. Imagination leaves people wanting more; there are numerous sequels to the story. The story also makes society want to explore what is out there in the wilderness. Maybe you’ll find a fairy or a tree full of slides and bunks. It made society want to explore the unknown.
In Peter Pan the reader learns to be young forever and that your imagination can bring you anywhere. Living “young forever” does not necessarily mean to actually be a kid forever, but to live with the spirits of kids and be light hearted, content, and lively. To think of life as a “big adventure”, and living to the extent of excitement, and never losing the feeling of complete bliss and enjoyment (Barrie, Peter Pan). Besides learning about being young forever the reader/viewer also learns that imagination can bring you anywhere in life. As one of the most notable geniuses ever, Albert Einstein, once said, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attraction.” Imagination is what keeps peoples time on earth worth living. Without imagination we would have nothing; we would have no art, music, language,, and etc. In Peter Pan everything in Neverland was created from imagination; it was a far off land in the sky. Peter Pan taught us a lot about how to live a happy fulfilling life.

The collage demonstrates transcendentalism beliefs by being colorful, having organic shapes, having earth figures such as a tree, and showing more then just one normal portrait but taking it out of the box. The collage is very busy and shows an avid demonstration of imagination at work. It is an example of something that maybe a non-conformist might make because it does not stick to the basic guidelines of traditional art but expands to a different genre. To fully understand or feel the art it is important to keep in mind that “ It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see” (Thoreau, Walden). You have to look past the bright colors and the odd items and see it for the artist’s personality and expression of themselves or depending on the art, the deeper meaning.
What inspired the collage was, the fish in the middle top. In a magazine, it was the cover page for an article about healthy eating. The fish had small metallic hints and nice accent colors. As the collage progressed, other inspiring magazine clips were added, paints and sharpie was added, and then random little doodles were added. The end result came out to be an expressive piece that feels loose and upbeat.
This creation shows agreement with transcendentalism by showing non-conformism and organic colors and figures. Conformist art could be considered traditional portraits or landscapes done in a realistic way. For example Victorian portraits, that sticks to the model and does not expand on a greater message or understanding. There is only one thing to look at; on the other hand in the collage there are many things to look at. It is striking and original. It ‘s colors and figures add to its transcendentalism; it adds the aspect of nature and freedom. In your own art you have the freedom to add what you want and do what you want to your work. Art is place of freedom and jubilation.

of Nature and God because He is in everything we say and do, and trusting
The song I created represents a Transcendentalist belief because it sends a message for why it’s necessary to trust yourself, and your heart. It also tells us not to see any law as a huge bridge with barbed wires a blockade to prevent us from believing ourselves. Listening and doing what you think is right matters, and also associating with Nature as one believes will help increase an individual’s “higher” knowledge about their surroundings, and of God’s wonderful creation. In Thoreau Walden’s “Where I Lived, and What I Lived For”, the quote “Let us rise early and fast…, [and] let company come and … [go]” [Walden 110]. These quotes explain that we should not be thrown off by any friend/relative and not make the best out of what God has in store for us.
The Transcendentalist beliefs I have learned about inspired me to create this piece. It really helps to know that you can accomplish incredible things if you believe in yourself, and knowing one is able to ignore the laws for the right reason. I really think we should study more about Nature because everything in Nature feels free to roam about unlike us.

It's because you are disobedient and persistent
But what if you are right, and they are wrong
Will they ever apologize, I think not
Why? Because they think their laws are more important than that of the individuals
